1/5/11

Today in class...
we had a class discussion.

The Soviet Union (Russia,USSR) took the north and the USA took the south.
Japans army is disassembled at the end of WWII, and the Soviet Union and US, each get a part of Korea.
Decided to separate Korea. Russia got the north, we got the south.

1950's -> Russia and USA both developing nuclear weapons.
Proxy- the consider the Korean war a proxy war. [they used someone to win the war for them] (It was like the US was fighting Russia, but it was largely fought with US weapons, rather than Soviet weapons. We never declared war on them, and they never declared war on us, but we were both fighting for parts of Korea, which gave Korea a foot up on the Soviets.)
The war technically has never actually come to an end. There has been no truce or surrender in the Korean, but there was a cease fire, which meant they could cool off a bit, but they still don't like each other. It is very tense between both of them still.

North Korea -> hates USA
South Korea -> likes USA
We help set up South Korea, because SK is a sturdy government, and it is still developing and coming along, whereas NK has people starving and dying, and they have a dictator in charge. SK has a president.
